Sacrifice

The topic of sacrifice entered my head as I gingerly positioned myself over the cut out hole of the outhouse I was using. I had to laugh as I soaked in the situation. The Romanian cuisine had finally gotten to me, either that or the stomach virus that little David (the toddler we are living with) had. The outhouse has a wooden door that would be great if it actually shut. When fastened, the door has about a 2 foot opening that allows you to see all the happenings that are going on by the house and allows others to see all that is happening in the outhouse! Quite a feature! There is a window that is just high enough to see the mountains of the beautiful land here and allow some reprieve of the smell that greets you each time nature calls (quite literally).
Tonight was special though. For some reason, a neighbor thought it necessary to play old school American music for the whole street to hear. It was dark and I could see the dog’s (Cocoa) red eyes reflecting off my head lamp beam. I wonder if she knows what I am doing? Or if she cares? At any rate, all my senses are heightened by all that is going on in this moment. At first, I think to myself the great reward of sacrifice. And how God must be ready to open the flood gates because of what I am going through. Really? Don’t worry, the Holy Spirit was quit on that one and reminded me of a sacrifice that doesn’t even come close to what I am experiencing. Doesn’t even compare. Wouldn’t even be on the same page in the dictionary to describe the word. That sacrifice is what Jesus did on the cross. That sacrifice changed my life! No one’s life was getting changed by this moment in the outhouse!
At that point, I thanked Jesus for His amazing sacrifice for me and then actually laughed out loud at the situation. It isn’t often you get to enjoy a dance party, a dog, the mountains, and a summer breeze while you go to the bathroom!
