On Tuesday, June 9, the HBz loaded up in a VW bus and headed across Germany to Summer Camp 09 in Belgium. We arrived early to help prepare the grounds for the arrival of 300 youth. Once camp began there was no stopping!
We were responsible for workshops throughout the week. Alex and I led a workshop on journaling – we briefly talked about being creative in the ways we express what the Lord is teaching us – making collages out of magazines, painting, writing, drawing, scrapbooking. The remainder of the workshop was hands on – letting the Lord speak and using our creative minds. Ben and Patrick led a workshop directly to the men only. Kelly led a workshop on drama, which was later performed during the evening worship time. Helen and Shiloh led a workshop titled, “Girl Talk,” a beautiful reminder of how the Lord loves His girls.
The week was full of amazing activities – worship, relay races, going to the beach at night, going to the beach during the day (no one left without being dumped into the ocean), water games, campfires, and a lot of late nights.
One night we split the guys and the girls for “gender” only talks. Olga, a beautiful German lady, spoke about the Father as our father. In the places that their/our fathers may have abandoned us, our Heavenly Father is the one that is filling in the gaps. Our Heavenly Father is the One that truly loves us no matter what. After the message there was a time of ministry. It was amazing to look girls in the eyes and tell them how much their Father LOVES them and how beautiful they are to HIM! And to pray over the girls and encourage them! I was holding/hugging two girls, Bettie and Jenny, for quite some time. It was beautiful because the Lord reminded me that these girls that I was holding were HIS daughters and I was privileged to holding them. These were HIS baby girls and I was completely humbled and honored once again to be here – to be living for HIM and to be doing HIS work across the world. That moment at camp was the most impacting!
The week was capped off with a huge concert and blazing campfire. To say that it was an amazing week would be an understatement, but I don’t know how to capture the growth and passion of the week. It was a BEAUTIFUL week – hopefully the images below help create a clearer picture of our time there.
