We have successfully made it to Lodwar, Kenya – our home for the month!
A few things I never knew …
- Who knew I would love taking bucket showers?
- Who knew that camels are considered domestic animals?
- Who knew that you sweep dirt floors every day?
- Who knew that you could actually watch the constellations move while sitting on couches outside?
- Who knew that you could love washing dishes under the stars?
- Who knew that you could brush your teeth with sticks?
- Who knew that cockroaches loved squatty toilets so much?
- Who knew that hand washing your clothes was such a workout?
- Who knew that chai tea was so good despite the 100+ degree temperatures?
- Who knew that three showers a day was considered normal?
We arrived in Lodwar after a fairly long 9.5 hour bus ride – see Ian Schumann’s video blog. Despite being in a totally new culture for Christmas, I am learning to adapt and to enjoy the lifestyle of the Turkana people in Lodwar, Kenya!
