Obedience is hard.
When Abraham took his son Isaac up to the top of the mountain to give him up as a sacrifice to the Lord, he didn’t take a goat with him just in case God changed his mind on the way. He didn’t question God when he heard God command him to sacrifice his own son. He didn’t hesitate, but got up early the next morning to go up to the mountain and kill Isaac. The son he had waited years for. The son that God had promised he would give to him. The son from whom would come the nation of Israel. In spite of all this, Abraham wasn’t afraid. He put his faith in God’s promise.
God always keeps his promises.
It’s really easy to lose heart and feel like giving up when you’re walking up a mountain and you don’t have a goat. The moments when you’re waiting for God’s provision.. and then you wait some more.. and then more.. and then suddenly it’s only been a few days but it feels like you’ve been waiting for months. Logically (or at least in terms of human logic), God should be providing at a steady, measurable pace. That way, it would be easier give proof to people who don’t believe that God will provide. You can tell them, “See? At this rate, I’ll reach my goal in just the right amount of time”. But God likes surprises. It’s often at the times when He shows up at the last minute to save the day that he is most glorified in that situation. He always comes through, one way or another. Sometimes, He comes through in ways we that aren’t expecting. We have to be flexible because being obedient to the Lord’s call isn’t about the outcome or getting what we want. It’s about being obedient and knowing that, no matter what happens, He’s going to take care of us.
