There is a room at my parent’s house that is made up completely of windows. It is one of my favorite places to curl up with a good book. So, this morning as I read, I couldn’t help but notice the buzzing of several houseflies zipping around the room. Then I would hear a clunk, the fly would go silent for a moment only to start buzzing around again at about a hundred miles and hour to clunk into another window. I got up and opened up the door so the flies could liberate themselves, but they kept buzzing around and crashing into windows in attempts to fly freely into the beautiful blue sky that awaited on the other side.
Now, I am not trying to reduce the complexity of our human nature to that of a fly, but it did get me thinking…how often do we buzz around in life at a hundred miles an hour trying to free ourselves from the prison we feel like we’re trapped in when God has already opened the door to set us free in Him?
“I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut…” Revelation 3:8
and
“…Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
There is freedom in Christ and nothing in this world can replace it. Nothing. I choose the open door and hope that others will, too.
