Kolentsi, Ukraine

This year, time and time again, God has been using ordinary things to teach me extraordinary things.

Indulge me if you will…

We had a mouse problem where we stayed in Ukraine. Those little twerps got anywhere and everywhere there was the smallest morsel of food. When we left Africa, I had to use up the last of my currency and naturally, I used it to buy candy, like any good World Racer would. So, I tucked my Bar One and pack of Lifesavers into the side pocket of my purse to save for an emercency. By the time we’d traveled 50+ hours through 3 countries and 2 continents, my secret stash had slipped my mind. Little did I know that days later those little scavenger rodents would climb up my bunk and into my purse to have a feast.

Stick with me here…

This got me thinking, would I still have bought my candy knowing it would later get eaten by a mouse? The flesh of me says no since that would be a waste of money…it could be better spent elsewhere. Then that got me thinking about God and His sacrifice of His Son Jesus…would He have still done it if he knew that his gift would be chewed up and spit out like trash? Sadly, that seems to be what happens so often in this world. People hear the gospel, they chew on it for awhile, and then just leave it behind and throw it out like trash. Ya know…I think God did know this would happen…and I think that He would have still gone through with the purchase anyways. Our spiritual freedom was bought at a price. 1 Corinthians 6:20 & 7:23 reference this concept of us being bought at a price. He knew some would reject that truth, but the fact is that He did it anyways. He loves the world that much.

Let’s not take that for granted and honor God with our lives. That is my hope for this world!
