Coffee Bay, South Africa
I won’t ever forget the excitement I felt when our van peaked the top of the hill and we first saw the waves crashing into Coffee Bay. A little piece of paradise. Coffee Bay is traditionally a stop where backpackers frequent, to soak in the beauty, to seek that ‘something’ that satisfies. But the truth is that this little place is eagerly hungry for the real truth. There is a strong presence of witchcraft here, so the people here seem to be aware of the reality that there is something greater than what is skin deep. Our goal is to guide them towards Christ and teach them the true reality that He is the only way who truly can satisfy the soul.
This month we are working with a friend whose aim is to bring the youth here to Christ and add hope to the lives of the children who live in the village. We do this by getting them involved in sports ministries. We have helped pioneer a soccer and surfing ministry here over the last month and praise God that the kids have been very receptive to the message of Christ and prayer time which the program fosters. Nearly 100 youths have come out each afternoon to play soccer or learn to surf. We begin each afternoon praying with the kids and then one of us wioll share a Bible message. We meet one on one with the kids to make sure they understood the message and pray individually with them. It has been incredible to see God working throughout this community and I know kids are finding hope in the message that we bring, the only hope that trumps all other attempts to satisfy the hungry soul.
