As this month starts coming to a close, it’s hard to think about leaving all the wonderful people we have met and come to love. Our team has been blessed to have such a great first month here in Uganda.
There are some ministries that say they are Christian based, and then there are ones like Raising Up Hope where you can see God’s hands upon the ministry in everything they do.
From running a free school, caring for orphans in boys and girls homes, slum ministry and Village of Hope, there is always something to keep yourself busy. Our team has been teaching at the school every day, and twice a week heading into the slums to minister and feed a group of boys.
Although I have never taught before the beginning of this month, it’s been something I have come to enjoy. My 5th grade class consists of 20 students, my favorite lesson was when I taught them how to write letters and address envelopes… I now constantly come home with a purse full of letters addressed to “Auntie Jessica.”
The slum ministry has been such a transformation from our first visit to when we went last. The first time we went a spiritual attack occurred and left most of us with the feeling of not wanting to go back. When our team prayed about whether or not to go back we felt that we needed to give it another shot. I’m so glad we did! We’ve been able to spend some quality time time with them and tell them stories from the Bible. And a huge praise is I was able to pray with 5 boys who accepted Christ into their life!
Something I have come to enjoy is expect the unexpected. The race is all about experiencing God in the fullest, and most of the time those moments happen when you jump head first into the unknown.
Some prayer requests:
– We are soon heading to Rwanda to start our month 2 ministry, keep my team in your prayers as we find out what this next month will look like.
-Please continue to keep the slums in your thoughts, there have been a few hard things going on.
