Freedom…a word that is commonly used here in America. When you hear the word freedom, what do you think of?
Freedom of speech? Freedom to choose…
Freedom of religion? Right to bear arms?
Right to an education? Freedom to equality?
Freedom from religion?
As a young adult who was born and raised in this country, my opinions and understanding of freedom revolved around these concepts…yet I never felt free. Sure, I could do whatever…bear arms…vote….speak my beliefs without fear of retaliation but I never felt free. I was absolutely miserable…
I didn't know anything different. I spoke of freedom, but walked in bondage.
But God…
I was sitting in my prayer chair, thinking about all the things I couldn't do. I thought about all the new "rules" I had to go by since I now called myself a believer… Then, I thought of those things I had been straight up delivered from and then it clicked. All these years, I've looked to worldly/earthly freedoms when my citizenship is not even on this planet! Seriously! What had I been thinking?
As believers, we are not of this world, nor should we look to find our freedoms in a mere country! We are of a different Kingdom…we are in God's Kingdom and the freedom that is there far surpasses anything. No word can describe, no mind can comprehend, no one can explain…this freedom. After all, Christ came to set us free, why do we live in such a bound up world? I don't know about you, but as for me, I am going to step in to these freedoms, accept fully what Christ has given me so I can efficiently do what He has called me to do. After all, how do we plan to love, deliver, and disciple if we are not walking in what God has freely given us?
Now, don't get me wrong…I'm not saying that we are perfect or that these issues do not try to bud their ugly heads now and again but what I am saying is we have been given the power to overcome these and keep them under our feet.
I will walk in what Christ has given me…will you join me? Here is a list of just some of the things that I can think of that God has freed me from… What has He done for you?
