Ok so we
didn’t actually spend Thanksgiving on a boat– but it sounds better
than saying we spent Thanksgiving on a bus, which is the truth.
Technically we spent the day after Thanksgiving on a boat– that’s
close enough, right??
Our last
day in Tanzania we had an incredible opportunity to spend a day and a
night sailing to Zanzibar off the coast of Tanzania– one of the most
beautiful places in the world. Those 30 hours were an incredible gift
from the Lord– not to mention the 20 minutes when a pod of spinner
dolphins played around our boat as we were sailing ๐
After we got our land-legs back, we took our last African bus 13 and
a half hours up to Nairobi, where we had our squad debrief. While we
were there, we had our squad Christmas party! We were three weeks
early, but we weren’t actually going to be together on Christmas, so we
had to fit it in there. That night was SO much fun! The hostel was all
decked out in Christmas decorations, and we had pizza and a white
elephant gift exchange. I had one of those moments– there was a
blazing fire, Christmas music was playing in the background, and I was
laughing and just having so much fun with 40 people who I absolutely
love and consider my second family– it was a great night ๐
After
debrief, we hopped on a plane to Qatar, then another one to Bangkok
(the nicest plane I’ve ever been on, I had a touch screen TV coming out
of my armrest, with movies, music, tv shows, games, and a phone to
other seats.. and LEG ROOM! Something that is generally unheard of in
world race transportation). Qatar Airways are definitely the smart way
to travel.
We spent about 48 hours in Bangkok, and we had SO much fun! I think
we were completely overwhelmed by culture shock. We got to shop in
these HUGE markets and eat all kinds of crazy stuff, and we were there
for the King’s birthday celebration, which was CRAZY.
**look closely.
**I
tried everything in the above pictures, except this monstrosity that
Alex and Boaldin tried. I really don’t know if I’m gonna make it
through that one.
Thus ended our one week, three country, two continent, two holiday extravaganza ๐
