It had been a while since our team had gone to church, especially one where the entire service was in English! But on this day, my team and I along with one of our squad leaders, Madisson,had just come from attending worship service at International Baptist Church (IBC) in San Jose. Instead of guessing what was going on in the service, we understood every word and it was a treat!

Around one o’clock in the afternoon, we left the service feeling filled up from our time of worship and fellowship. We also felt challenged after hearing the Pastor talk about “Bent Knee Ministry.” He spoke on the importance of prayer and the three features of bent knee ministry:

  1. Posture – submitting ourselves before The Lord;
  2. Purpose – communicating with our Heavenly Father and petitioning for the needs of others and;
  3. Power – prayer gives us strength for each new day.

Little did our team know, Madisson had begun her own bent knee ministry before we had even left the service.

On our way home, we stopped for lunch at the Multiplaza – one of the largest malls in San Jose. We window shopped and made mental notes of stores to return to as we navigated to the food court. Once at the food court we decided on a time to gather back together and were each given our portion of money for food.

With grumbling tummy’s, we quickly dispersed to check out the different restaurants. It wasn’t long before we realized there wasn’t much we could get to eat and stay within our budget. We were left with two options: have a very light lunch or put in personal money to buy a decent meal.

After having decided to bite the bullet, a few of us were getting in line to buy our food when Madisson came running over to us with a huge smile on her face.

“Wait! Don’t buy any food! There’s a man over here who has offered to buy lunch for all of us, she said.”

Now normally, I would be leery of a stranger offering to buy me something but I trust Madisson so I went with it.

And I’m so glad I did.

Turns out after watching us, this gentleman walked up to some of my teammates, asked if our group were missionaries, then said he wanted to bless us by buying us lunch!

Wow! What an unexpected blessing!

He paid for our Pizza Hut meal and we chatted for a bit, learning that his uncle is also a missionary. We asked if he would join us for lunch but he said he had to get back to his wife and children. And just like that he was gone.

Talk about a divine appointment!

Afterwards, Madisson told us how she prayed in church for free transportation and food. And God in His bountiful favor blessed us with both right on time!

Through this experience, God reminded me that if He can provide something as small as a yummy Pizza Hut lunch and free transportation then surely He can blow my mind and fulfill my wildest dreams.

And He can do the same for you.

All we have to do is position ourselves in the constant posture of prayer and remember that it is never a question of if God can, it is if He will.

Will you join me in Bent Knee Ministry?
