I
walked into the office at Adventures in Missions this morning with
excitement and a little bit of nervousness. You see today was the day
where I’d meet my new boss. Everyone at CGA works in the office. Half
our time is actually spent doing hands-on learning.
I just found
out on Monday night that I would be working for a man named Ken Young. I
heard some pretty great things about him in the day and half before
formally meeting him and talking with him so my excitement began to grow.
I
had a bit of fear and anxiety that because I was coming into this
program midway in the first session I’d merely be placed somewhere
without much consideration, put someplace to fill a space and get
checked off a list.
But here are some of the things that I was hearing about Ken:
He’s
a part of something new. He’s heavily involved in innovation and
bettering the World Race program. He’s a part of making the big dreams
that continually come out of Seth Barnes’ amazing mind become a reality.
So
there I am. Dressed and ready to go. Trying to patiently wait until
Ken’s available and the director of CGA, Bill Swan, takes me in to make
the introduction. I have some tea and go wander around and find people
to talk to and distract from working. It’s not hard to find great
people to talk to. They seem to be around every corner, like hidden
jewels in cubicles really, connecting with future missionaries or
editing spreadsheets or planning training camps. If I go to the right
corners I can even find a few of my squadmates.
The moment finally arrives. Bill ushers me into Ken’s office, and the meet ‘n greet begins.
I
immediately like Ken. How could anyone not like him? He’s just one of
those people. I had actually seen him around at Training Camp and
possibly met him briefly. I met so many people that week; it’s hard to
keep track.
He has a kind and warm smile that is
seasoned with years of experience from working with and loving on
people. He’s one of those fatherly men of God that immediately makes
you feel right at home because of his authenticity. You can just tell
there’s no front; there’s no “game face” for the office. Who you meet
is who you get right from the start.
During our time talking
this morning we just kind of scratched the surface of who we are, where
we’ve been and what the Lord’s got us up to now. Ken got to do some
vision casting for the department and what the next several months might
look like.
He told me how honored he was for me to be working for him. Excuse me…YOU honored. I believe it’s the other way around!
I
began to get more and more excited about the next 6 months here. This
joy began to bubble up inside of me and that feeling of KNOWING that
you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be gave me such a peace and a
confirmation in my spirit.
Like I’ve said before, I feel that I’m on the verge of something big.
This has potential to be a large part of that. I’m pumped to be
working for a man with such a professional background and huge heart for
the Lord and missions. Balance in professionalism and ministry is
something that I can tell from our conversation that Ken has a pretty
firm grasp on, and I can’t wait to learn all that I can from him in both
areas. I’m so excited to try something new and possibly see what I may
be really good at doing.
Ken believes in investing in people, in
their spiritual journeys. That’s his top priority. From what I hear,
he’s pretty amazing at his job too.
We ended our time in prayer, and I left about to burst with excitement for what’s ahead! I left feeling valued and heard and worthy of being poured into, both professionally and spiritually. Like a daughter of the King should.
I
could never have expected such a wonderful surprise from my Father.
God’s such a good God. He’s always got something better than we could
ask for waiting for us if we only take that step out in faith.
To
top the day off this afternoon I received a message that a few people
recently made some financial donations. I now have enough to get me
through this first month of CGA! Thank you so much, Father for Your
provision!
Now I get to snuggle down into the most comfortable
bed I’ve slept in in months and lay down in peace knowing that God is
good and He is faithful. I am His daughter, and He’s always watching
out for me.

I
am still seeking monthly supporters to help me meet my financial
deadlines. Any gift is significant. I’d love for you to partner with
me. To give you an idea I need to raise a bare minimum of $450 a
month. Please pray about joining in! Just click the “Support me HERE”
tab on the left to get started.
