“Children are a reward from the Lord.” Psalm 127:3
During our final month of ministry in India, God really lavished His blessings on my team and I. Not only were we partnered with a great team and so got to share a nice home with our friends, but we had the extreme honor of working with an incredible ministry called Sarah’s Covenant Home. We spent our days loving on orphaned children with special needs. It was one of the most heart warming ministries I got to work with all year.
The Lord really poured His love out on us through these precious children during our final days on the field, a time when the Father knew we were weary and worn down.
Sarah’s Covenant Home rescues children with special needs from the public orphanages where they often die of neglect and poor care. At SCH the children are placed in the loving watch of a foster mom (usually an American long term volunteer) who oversees their care and medical treatment and trains local nannies on how to meet the kids’ needs. It is the goal to see these children adopted by forever families.
We met little ones like Primi, above, who is 4 years old and has a very rare case of dwarfism. She is about 2 feet tall and nearly full grown. But don’t let her height fool you! She certainly proves the statement “big things come in small packages”. She runs the show around her foster home and made sure she put us to work while we were there!
Precious Chetu was born with a cleft lip which has now been repaired and she is a beautiful, healthy, two year old! It has hard to realize that these simple imperfections were enough to make a parent give up their child. In India, a child with any deformity is seen as a curse, which makes the work of SCH even more important.
These kids blessed our hearts and renewed our spirits. If you would like to learn more about the kids and work of SCH, visit them at http://www.schindia.com/
