So my team and I got the chance to do Unsung Heroes ministry once again during month 10 of our race in Nepal. Though I have been the squad coordinator for the program the entire trip, I have not had the opportunity to be hands on doing the ministry with my team since month 2 in Nicaragua. We were the first team on the squad to do the program and we were definitely still figuring things out and working out the kinks. But God is faithful and uniting His kingdom is His desire so things have certainly come a long way since then.

My favorite contact we made this month came to us very randomly. We had a meeting with one missionary couple who eventually told us they didn’t think it was the best fit for them to host a world race team. But this meeting was no waste! They happened to mention that their children attend the Kathmandu International Study Centre, a school designed for the children of missionaries to ensure they get a good education since the Nepal school system is lacking, but now also educates local Nepalis as well and has 13 nations represented in its student body. All teachers and staff are volunteers and live on faith, trusting God will provide the support they need to continue their ministry through His church.

We researched into this school and decided we would reach out to them for an Unsung Heroes meeting as well. By this time, we are nearing the end of the month… the end of the 10th month, mind you… and we are all tired. Pretty much my entire team was sick throughout the month in Nepal. We were just barely hanging on. So much of UH is encouraging the kingdom workers we get to meet throughout the month. So off we go to hang out at this school, hear about what they are doing, see if they could use a team to help advance their ministry, pray for them, and go on about our way. For me, I was looking forward to the fact we were having tacos for lunch more than the meeting itself. But it’s funny how God knows exactly what you need and when you need it most!

These amazing people at KISC that we thought we were coming to encourage totally blessed our socks off! The director, Judith Ellis, lives her life asking the Lord everyday what He would have her to do. This is the way she lives and also the way she runs her school. It is hard to describe our experience fully, but the presence of God is all over that campus! Every teacher, such a passionate heart for Jesus and their calling to change the world through education. Judith poured into us all day long, showing us every inch of the school and all the while preaching about life and lessons and every single thing we were needing to hear.

the end of the day Judith and the principal of the school led us into the chapel where they could pray for us- yes they wanted to pray over us instead of vice versa. Without even knowing I had been sick, they prayed for healing for me. They prayed strength and encouragement over our squad leader that had come along with us. All our needs, spot on. It was the most encouraging day I had had the entire month! This visit was a turning point for me. The tiredness, sickness, and apathy that had set in started to fade. I believe this visit was a gift from Jesus, spurring us on to finish our race well.

You never know what your day holds as you ask the Lord where He wants you to go……
