The World Race is the experience of a lifetime, and I’m enjoying (almost) every single minute of it! However, at 6 and a half months in, we’re over halfway through, and I’m realizing that home is coming sooner than I imagined possible. Since I’ll be so sad to leave the race, I’ve been filling my head with memories of the things I miss at home. Here’s a few.
Family and friends. Duh, they have to be at the top of the list. I’LL BE HOME SOON!
Knowing what price something is going to be when you go to buy it. Peanut butter can range from $2-$5. Cereal can top off around $7. I miss going into a store knowing how much money I will be spending.
Jeans. Sent my only pair home after 3 months after only wearing them once. Not that I would have worn them any other month on the race-it’s too dang hot-but I will definitely appreciate them when I return home…oh boy will I.
Heels. I never wore heels on a regular basis at home-only occasionally when I wanted to dress up. Perhaps that’s the real reason behind missing heels. Feeling dressed up-hasn’t happened much the last 7 months.
Not paying ATM fees. Wells Fargo just needs to get ATM’s in other countries-that’s all I’m gonna say.
Dryers…and real washing machines. We’ve found a few decent washing machines on the Race, but only once in 7 months have my clothes been dried via machine, and that was at a Laundromat in Panama. Oh to pull fluffy clothes warm out of a dryer and bury my nose in them…
Having any sort of wardrobe selection. To have choices in what to wear! Oh, and dressers, and closets and hangers…anything that will keep my clothes out of my backpack and off the floor!
