So, I love pictures, and when I hear about other people’s experiences, I would rather look at pictures: so here’s a little glimpse into our lives and ministry in the Philippines this month!
Yes. Our flight went over not only Alaska, but also Russia. Since I will likely never return to Russia, I’m going to count it. It’s covered in snow. Blech.
I had to get on a boat for the 3rd month in a row. I’m gonna get my sea legs someday I guess…this was our ferry from Manila to Puerto Galera!
One of our projects for the month was clearing land that the church in Aninuan had recently acquired. The long term plan is to build a 3 story building on this property that will be used as a children’s home as well as a guest house for future missionaries! Guess I’ll have a place to stay if I come back!
The other project we tackled was moving a rather large pile of rather heavy rocks from one side of a hill to the other. Some of the rocks weighed upwards to 60 pounds. Talk about a workout!
But don’t be fooled. We did way more than just physical labor. The main ministry we worked with was Threads of Hope (check out their website for more information and fundraising possibilities!
www.threadsofhope.com.ph/). Alex began the ministry several years ago to help give women another way of life versus prostitution. His idea to buy bracelets in mass and sell them has taken off and now over 450
women in the
community are able to support their families because of the bracelets they make! We got to spend time with many of the women who make the bracelets, some on the beach, some in their homes! It was such a blessing to be able to be a part of this ministry during the month. I plan on continuing to sell bracelets in the future to support the ministry.
Oh. And we got to play with kids…which hardly ever makes for a bad month. They are amazing and so loving. It was a joy just to be around them!
This was our room for the month…4 girls in a small space completely throws organization out the window. Ironically-we still know where everything is.
This river (which is extremely clear) was both our shower and our laundry room. We got to experience the river baths this month. Not bad considering…
I can’t forget to mention that we spent the month just a 10 minute walk away from the beach!
And we had a monkey. His name was Moy Moy. And he was adorable.
And finally. Coca Cola gets it right:
