As soon as we pulled into Quito, I took a sigh of relief. It was so western. Everything around me reminded me of Colorado. The streets were actually clean and the people were wearing outfits that I had in my closet at home. Finally, something I was familiar with! In my mind, I was back in the United States.
At our house and ministry site, we have wifi access 24/7. We have hot showers, beds, and a fireplace. I can talk to my friends any time I want, check tweets, or watch a movie. We have been truly blessed by the amenities we have at our disposable. However, I am back in the United States. I have fallen back into habits that I wanted to break on this trip. I feel the need to constantly look nice and put together in case I skype one or my friends, take a picture, or send a snapchat. I’m spending more time with my friends in America than I am with my team here in Ecuador.. I miss my friends. It is like the cheap version of being back at home because I can see everyone but can’t give them a hug or go anywhere with them. I find it hard to focus on the things here because I am constantly wondering what everyone is doing at home
It’s time that changes, though. I AM IN ECUADOR. I am getting to experience something that people only dream about. If I wanted to be in the United States, I wouldn’t have signed up for the World Race.
Ciao from Ecuador,
Jessica
