Imagine for a moment that suddenly everything you owned was taken from you. Left without a home, a job, food..to what extent would you go to provide for your family?

For many in Honduras, their last hope in found in the city dump. Discarded leftovers sustain life, wet cardboard provides shelter, and day after day is spent sifting through other’s garbage for food or anything that may be worth a few cents.

Over 1,000 people call the dump “home” and hundreds of others travel to the dump everyday for work. Mouths and noses covered they fight over each new garbage bag that falls from a truck.

A little girl named Maria trails after her parents with a shiny earring dangling from the front of her dirty hat. Someone’s trash has made her a princess…at least for today.

Take a few minutes to reflect on the images below and be thankful that you know where your next meal is coming from.
