end of our time in Bulgaria, my team was attending a youth conference at a
church we had been working with. We had just found out we would be doing Unsung
Heroes for the month of Romania and I was on the prowl for contacts. During a
break at the conference, the girls on my team were sitting at a table in the
lobby when a man approached us and asked us if he could sit down. Almost
immediately after he sat, he began to tell us about himself. I listened to his incredible story and how God
had gifted him with the ability to pick up languages almost instantly. As we
shared about the World Race and what we were doing, I told him we were going to
Romania next and asked if he knew anyone there.
course.”
words set us on a path we never could have planned; it was a divine
appointment.
past week, we lived in a gypsy village outside of Sighisoara, Romania with the
sweetest family God ever created. Agusti and Dana are missionaries to this
village and live in the church parsonage with their four children; they gave up
everything to fulfill Gods call on their lives. And when I say everything, I do mean everything. Every day they trust God will provide for them and every day
he does.
our stay in Soard, we helped with the construction of a house. Dana and Agusti
had not only put a lot of their own money into the house but worked tirelessly
on it along with their two boys. The family it was being built for was a recent
widow and her six children. The kids were often around playing and vying for
our attention along with other children from the village. At first it was
simple hand games, but it quickly turned into pinching and slapping me. Besides
persistent nos said with intentional eye contact, they wouldn’t stop. I was at
a loss for what to do and wanted to sit down and cry. Luckily the day ended and
we went back to the safety of our house.
the first time I’ve ever suffered because of my faith. The kids may not have
known why we were there, but I knew the reason was Christ. Although I like to
serve people, I would have never taken the risk to do this trip unless God told
me to. Never did I think when I said yes to this trip that I would spend a
couple hours of it being beat on. Yet, this is what Christ has called me to. In
Phillipians it says, “For it has been granted to you that for the sake of
Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake.” Because I believe in Him, I must suffer for Him too.
family lives this every day. As our Unsung Heroes month comes to a close, they
stand out as true unsung heroes. They walk daily by faith, trusting God with
each step. They give of the little they do have with no expectation of
repayment. They freely give as they have freely received. An unsung hero is
someone who is doing Gods work with little praise or recognition. I don’t want them to be unsung heroes anymore; I want their incredible work to be known and their God-sized dreams to come to fruition.
