Hello my dear friends and family,
As
the last semester of my senior year at the University of Tulsa approaches, some
of you may be wondering (or asking already) what I’m doing after graduation.
Over my four years here at TU, I’ve researched and planned for what I would do.
After I was turned down for a job with Teach for America, I began to pursue
other options for my two gap years between undergrad and graduate school. Missions
or ministry were definitely on my heart and so I applied for the World Race and
was accepted! After prayerful consideration and many conversations, I’ve
decided to go.
The
World Race is an 11 month mission trip in 11 countries. I will move countries
every month. The specific route I’m going on will take me to Ireland, Romania,
Ukraine, India, Nepal, Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa, Thailand, Cambodia,
and Taiwan. In these countries I will have the opportunity to partner with
local ministries to serve people. The ministries will vary by country, but I’ll
be reaching out to sex trafficking victims, loving on children in orphanages,
and preaching the Gospel. I wrote this in a blog a few days ago about what I
really want from this trip: I want to
help victims of sex trafficking in Thailand. I want to bring light to Ireland.
I want to play with children in Cambodia. I want to serve. I want to be
recklessly surrendered to God. I want to be broken down and built up stronger. God
has already started breaking my heart for the people in these countries, but I
need you to make this happen.
There
are a few ways you can help me and the first and most important is to become a
part of my “home team” while I’m abroad. As a part of my home team, you’ll
receive monthly updates about how ministry is going for me. For my trip, I need
to raise $15,500 and purchase gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad,
etc.), travelers insurance, and some vaccinations. What I really need during
this time is support and that can be shown in many ways.
1.
Prayer –
I would love to have a group of people as a part of my prayer team while I’m
gone. This opportunity, while very exciting, is going to be hard and I’m going
to need your prayers to make it through.
2.
Financially
– This trip can’t happen without people to support me financially, but that
doesn’t mean just writing me a check.
a. Gear – I will be living out of a
backpack for this year, so there are some items I’ll need to buy for my trip
that you could help with instead of just writing a check and not knowing where
the money is going.
b. Vaccinations – Yuck. I do have to get a
good round of shots before I leave and you could help pay for those.
c. Monthly Support – If 57 people pledge
$25 a month for the 11 months I’m gone, I’ll be fully funded! You can choose
when you want to start and stop monthly donations as well.
d. One Time Gift – Every little bit of money
will help me pay for this trip.
There are two ways you can give: online (www.jessicafeeley.theworldrace.org Click Support Me! on the left hand side) or via snail
mail. Included with this letter is a fundraising card, which should be included
with any mailed donations. My prayer is that you will seek the Lord’s guidance
in how you can best support me, whether that is prayerfully or financially. I
have been called to the World Race and would greatly appreciate any support you
can offer. If you have any questions
please do not hesitate to email or call me.
In Christ’s love.
