I haven’t done laundry yet, and I can’t today because we have been without water for a day or so and have no idea when it will work again. It’s the same way with the electricity it comes and goes, our toilet overflowed 4 times in one day and flooded our apartment, there is no air conditioning, and wifi comes and goes as well.
In light of all of this I still couldn’t be happier to be just where I am, I am so humbled by the people, how the children fight for my attention, picking me flowers and giving me the pictures they have drawn. I work in the kitchen after I teach art every day, frying salami and serving boiled green bananas, and uuca root, the women bring us home made candies and bread. We are here to serve but in every direction we are being served. We are the only Americans in this remote mountain town and we can’t go anywhere here discreetly but are recieved so graciously everywhere.
I am humbled more and more every day I am here, the people have so little of material things in comparison to the states, but the hospitality is greater the way they embrace me as a foreigner is greater. I pray I never forget this perspective, it is life changing.
Though I smell like fried salami and febreeze I am overjoyed to Love and be loved by this community. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures soon.
Prayers are welcome for health a couple of us got a bit of food poisoning including myself and spent most of the day in bed resting. Thanks all.
