First few weeks of this mission have been hard! Yes, I expected to deal with poverty, sickness, death, and harsh conditions. However, I feel us Ladies Of Light are really being challenged. We spent a few days touring and seeing poverty and hardship first hand in the dirtiest roughest parts of the Philippines. Then before we could even start to find our ministry purpose we all became ill. We laid in sickness and joked how we have the hardest mission of our entire squad. I shared how I felt honored that GOD would choose us for this. As we healed up at different rates, split between two rooms, it seemed our relationships were distant as well. We prayed, got better, but all cringed (a little) at the thought of going back in the dump. We would have to be more cautious to stay healthy.
We decided to spend Monday off together somewhere nice , maybe the beach, bonding and replenishing our spirits. However we woke up Monday (today) with the news that Wendy's mother had died. It is the first gray raining day we have had here in the Philippines. Our hearts are breaking for her and we are doing our best to comfort and support her through this. I don't know if we will still be doing any ministry back in the cemetery or the dump. The ministry seems to have turned to each other. I watched the rain fall and thought GOD is with Wendy it's rains for her today. Nothing can be done or accomplished. Time to be sad, cuddle, and pray. However I can not wait for the sun to come back out for the Ladies of Light.
