One of my dreams and hopes for my future is to live on or at least be a part of a working farm or orchard of some sort. I love the idea of growing my own fruits and vegetables from seed. Seeing them grow and mature every step of the way and then being able to enjoy eating the final product. (I know, Dad, I haven’t always been very helpful with the gardening at home…sorry about that!) I hope to spend some quality time with my grandmothers and my own mother over the next year or so, learning how to make homemade jams, applesauce and salsas and pickles. Then, also learn how to can and freeze the fruits and vegetables to save for the winters. I don’t know why, but this old-fashioned (at least in America) way of doing things is attractive to me.

The reason I am thinking about this right now is because Viile Tecii, Romania reminded a lot of my dream. They had apple orchards (which we got to help harvest apples one day from), grapevines, plum trees and more everywhere. The countryside was filled with cornfields and vegetable gardens were in everyone’s yards. We had homemade jams and homegrown fruits available at almost every breakfast and for snacks throughout the day. I loved it!

So if anyone has a small farmhouse with land for a garden/small orchard they want to throw my way…let me know!
