I must admit, this year I was super excited when we were told we got to color Easter eggs! Call me a little kid if you want, but I love it. I’ve been known to color eggs at college or while I was away from home, because it makes me feel a little less homesick. I love family traditions like this.
Here in Selapume, Thailand, we decorated and dyed dozens and dozens of Easter eggs with some of the children here. It was a lot of fun and the children seemed impressed with the way we drew pictures on the eggs with crayons before dying them and pretty soon they were doing it, too.
The best part about the Easter eggs, though, was the egg hunt during the sunrise service the next morning. At 5:30 a.m., the whole congregation, children and elderly alike, were told to go find as many as they could. It was great to watch the young and the old having so much fun together. Even the old woman with a cane was racing the young ones to find the most eggs. I must not have
been fast enough, cause I only found 2! Prizes were handed out I did receive one, though. When no one found the special eggs that were hidden, the Pastor’s wife decided to give two prizes to the first ones up to help this morning. Since I had gotten up at 4 to finish the Easter “baskets” I made for my friends and then helped prepare breakfast, I was given a coffee mug as a prize for the first foreigner up and helping.
I may have been away from my family on yet another holiday, but I was still able to enjoy it with fellow Christians and celebrate the wonderful fact that my Savior, Jesus Christ died and rose from the grave, for me and for all of you; that one day we may conquer the grave as well and live with Him forever! What a glorious day that will be!
