The 5 minute walk through
the OIA terminal can seem an eternity when you know you are walking
away from your life, from all that you’ve ever known. But it is
better when you know you are walking into something purposeful &
revolutionary. It becomes even better when you realize you are not
walking alone.
With
this realization in place, I began to engage…
Countless airport security
lines & 28 hours later, I finally arrived in New Zealand. The
island nation greeted us with cloudy skies, drizzling rain &
temperatures much cooler than I had anticipated for a summer season.
A herd of Chaco clad travelers, bearing an abundance of outdoor
equipment, loaded onto buses which brought us to the wonderful YWAM
New Zealand base- the host of our LAUNCH week.
We have spent the last day
recovering from jet lag, mourning the loss of America, & becoming
acclimated to community living with teammates. Speaking of which, I
have received a new one- teammate that is. Her name is Emily & I
couldn’t be more thrilled for the addition.
The weather has since
redeemed itself, revealing a gleaming sun & stunning mountain
landscapes which surround our entrenched camp. We will spend the rest
of the week here, at WYAM, undergoing some additional training before
being sent out to our ministry sites. That being said, I will not be
able to blog until we reach our site because we, as a squad, are
going on a “screens fast” which entails no use of anything with a
screen (ex. Computer, ipod, phone, etc). We are doing this to focus
on building our new community & to help in breaking attachments
to home.
Do not worry- I will be in
contact soon enough, my teammates are thus far wonderful, New Zealand
is beautiful, I am doing well, I miss you all &I love you.
