Government
Nepal has always been governed by either a monarchy or a family until around the 50s when the Maoists began voicing the dissention through civil war. Since then, the country has been in political conflict and once again faces a civil war. In 2008, Nepal elected It’s first president. Please pray that God would show Himself to this man and lead him in how to lead the country. That God would be in the forefront on his mind in making decisions beneficial to the country's peace, growth, and rise from conflict.
Religion
Nepal is primarily hindu. 80% of the country calls themselves hindu and it is very hostile for anyone seeking to convert them to another religion. Before 1960, no Christians were allowed to live in the country. Although they have become a bit more lenient since then, it is still very risky to talk to others about God. In the past, Christians attempting to convert others to Christianity or even talk about God to a hindu have faced imprisonment and even death. Please pray for the safety of all Christians currently evangelizing in this country. Pray that God would open the hearts of the public officials who enforce this law.
The People
Around 42% of all Nepali live below the poverty line and 15% have no access to electricity. Because Nepal is surrounded by the Himalayas the country is strongly reliant on tourism and public aid. Please pray for the public aid to continue to flow in and for the tourism industry to continue to sustain Nepal. Pray that God would work through the government to open their eyes to the state of their country and to help them. Around 250,000 Nepali girls have become slaves in the sex trade and around 70% of those women are HIV positive and will not live to be 25. Please pray that God would protect those women. That He would come and touch these girls’ lives and give them something to hope for. That He would free them from this bondage and take from them this death.
This seems like such a difficult country to evangelize in, but I know that God can do anything through anyone. I pray that God would prepare our squad to be able to be strong enough in our faith to withstand the hostility against Christians. That God, You would prepare us for this that You have called us to. That we would know Your name as we have never known your name before and You would give us that peace that only You can give when it would seem our goal is hopeless and our cause lost.
