Place:

Leaving Jackie’s -> hostel in Livingstone -> Victoria Falls (for a quick visit) -> meet at the border and walk over the bridge into Zimbabwe -> hang out in town until night bus picked us up at 10pm -> arrived in Bulawayo at 3am -> bus back to Abraham’s house -> Scripture Union: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

We are safe and sound in Zimbabwe! We are sleeping in beds and have a door to our room, all exciting new experiences for us! The house is lovely and full of laughter from our little sisters, Kristy and Kim.

My team is working at Scripture Union this month. Scripture Union:

“…is a youth movement that seeks to reach out to young people in schools so that they may influence their peers and make an impact in the nation. Our work is in over 240 schools in the Bulawayo province. Our programs include, Life skills training, counseling, teaching, Bible study, Concerts, Camps and Leadership development. We also run a Street Children’s ministry where we try to reconcile the children with their families. We run a contact center at our office and a half way house for some of the Children whom we take to school and cater for their every need.”

People:

Everyday we have the opportunity to work with Abraham, the Director, and his crazy team. I am quickly learning Abraham is a man of many talents. For example, on Sunday when he jumped up and played piano for the worship team without using any sheet music! For this month he is organizing and escorting us to various public schools where we share lessons about God.

His wife Anna takes care of whatever we need at home. I think she’s pretty awesome!

Process:

Basically, we are given a time period to go into different schools and we fill up that time with whatever material we can cram into it. The schools clubs range from 30-1,500 students on any given day. Of course, with smaller schools we can ask questions and have a lot of interaction with the students, so we are really getting to know them. In the larger ‘assembly’ structured schools, we are often given 10-30 minutes just to introduce ourselves and our mission before they have to leave for the next class.

My favorite school so far has been Evelyn Girls School. We have about a ten minute time gap between their classes that we can come in and give them a devotional. There are about 60-70 girls that cram into one classroom and just stand and listen, even if they can’t see the speaker! So last week, I stood on one of the desks and gave a quick challenge about Habakkuk and surrender.

Prayer:

-pray for my team please as we hit the 7th month of the race

-praise God I no longer have a parasite or worms!

-pray for the team at Scripture Union to have clarity in communication with the school districts so they are timely when arriving

-praise God for the girls on my team being fully funded!

-praise God that a friend from home will be launching on the world race January route! And please pray for him as he starts fundraising! Thank you!
