I am the cook this month, for my team and another team Link 10:10 who we are working with this month. So far cooking for the teams has been more of a ministry then I thought it would be. It’s awesome to see how God uses any situation for ministry. There are five ladies who live here and they have welcomed me so warmly into their home. Every day they teach me a new way to cook African style and I love it! Even though they don’t know English and I only know how to say hello and thank-you in Ugandan, we still manage to know what each other is saying and when we don`t we just laugh. This past month has been a busy and challenging month but there has been so many good times! The ladies and I do morning devotions and morning stretches and lately I've been giving them massages. All of this goes on while we wait for the water and milk to boil.
My day usually looks like this.
6:30am Wake Up 7:00am Haul water from the well to the kitchen 7:30am Start Charcoal Fire while team mates go to the market and pick up Milk, Eggs and Fruit. While the the water is boiling the ladies and I have fun doing morning stretches. 8:00am Wash the dishes from last night. 8:30am Start cooking scrambled eggs, cut up the Pineapple and boil Milk and water for tea and Coffee. 10:00am Breakfast is ready! 10:30am Team Devotions. 11:00am Clean up Breakfast.
Most days my team and I would go into town Mbarara, for lunch and if not I would usually start making lunch at around 11:30am 1:30pm Lunch is ready; every meal takes at least 2 hours to make. 2:30pm to 3:30am Free time. 4:00pm We all head to the evening crusade and one or two of us will preach. 6:30pm We Get home and I start making dinner. 8:30pm Dinner is ready.
After dinner we all hangout have team time watch a movie on our lap top usually in suspense, because at any time the battery will probably die. We have no power this month. So we try to make our batteries life last as long as possible until the next time we go into town to charge our computers. 11:30pm Bed time.
I have a lot of respect for African woman, they are extremely hard working and very kind and warm hearted. Cooking African style is very time consuming a lot of hard work but once the meals are ready you are more thankful for the food God provided. Uganda will for ever have a piece of my heart. I am going to miss cooking African style and miss most of all the wonderful relationships I've made.
