It was roughly around 4pm when we arrived to the hospital. We came with the mindset that we would be praying over newborn babies that were sick. As our car approached the waiting room area that was outside, my team and I saw countless of people sitting on the ground with huge duffel bags. Our host later informed us that many of these families could have been waiting there for weeks. As I turned around and got the full picture of everyone and everything around me I realized how much brokenness and hurt was surrounding me. Our team was instructed to invite everyone that was in the waiting room for coffee while our host and I went inside inviting moms. As I walked around the rooms, I saw babies that appeared almost a grayish tint in tubes, a tumor in the eye of a kid, medical procedures being done, a mother laying on a table for rest, and in every single one; hurt in the eyes of these women. I walked out in shock over what I had just seen and was then shortly informed that myself and everyone else on our team would need to share a brief message with those gathered for coffee. Talk about SPONTANEOUS! Although there was a lot of insecurities and nerves, each one of us shared a 5-minute message or less on what God wanted to share with these families. My message was on God being a good God besides the circumstances going on around us. It hit home as I could share the testimony of the Lord’s goodness in my mom’s life as she had been diagnosed with cancer months before. As we concluded all our messages we were told to pray over the families around us and so I got pared up with my teammate Kelsey where we went person by person praying and believing in faith that the Spirit of God would move in mighty ways. Whether it was healing, breakthrough, faith, or trust, our God could do it and we simply needed those around us to believe that as well. There were tears, laughs, cries, and lastly even deaths. Right before we left we found out 2 babies had passed away. We prayed over each family and those 2 babies were no exception, so what happened? It’s in those moments even when we don’t understand that we need to recognize that our God isn’t one to leave his promises empty. He see’s things that we could never imagine and His heart is for us, for those women. We said our goodbyes, and as our van drove away I wondered to myself how much more pain there really is in that country, and through that in the world. Although, it hurt to go away and that note it brought me joy to see lives being changed. 4 people accepted Christ for the first time that week. 1 was at the hospital. The Lord’s goodness is all around us. His mercy and love will never forsake us. That night was probably one of my favorite days of ministries! I got to meet a kid named Carlos and hear a little bit of his story and his grandmother’s. We got to see the Lord work in ways we might’ve not seen had we been prepared for a simple message or had just prayed over newborns. The Lord knew what they needed to hear for that night.
