Seminary Sam
“We don’t come to seminary to get more of Him, but to share more of Him.”
-Manatap Sianturi
One day while in Indonesia, my team and I had the pleasure of visiting a seminary school and having a cultural exchange with a classroom of hungry Christ-followers. Many of these young students had come from far away islands where they had left their families behind to pursue their passion for the Word. In our short time together we discovered that for many of them, their dream was to take what they were learning back to their villages and pastor their own people.
I am unable to fully express exactly what hearing these dreams of theirs did for my heart. I sometimes wonder what good I can do in these countries where I am not well versed in the culture and am unable speak the language. And while I know that with God nothing is wasted, I also know that the small amount of Good News that I, a white American, can bring to this country in one month will be nothing compared to the amount of Good News that these Indonesian students, can bring to their own people throughout their lifetime.
So it is with great joy and hope that I would like to introduce you to Sam Bokaraong. He comes from Mamasa, on the island of Sulawesi. He is 21 years old. He is bold in his English speaking. A kind brother to his siblings. He likes to play fùtbol in his free time and help coach it too. When he finishes studying at seminary, he dreams of returning to his home to become a pastor at the village church. Take a good look at his smile, for his face is the future of the Indonesian Church.
