This month, we’re blessed to be staying in a long-term hotel. Amy and I are staying in 1 room together and we have air conditioning,
water pressure, hot water, a dresser and a refrigerator! In America, this would
be comparable to a Motel 6, but here on the World Race, this is luxury. We have
it good!
After a brief visit to Carmen and Kelly’s room, Amy and I
decided yesterday that we needed to liven up our room with some color like they
had done. So, we set about looking through our stuff to see what we could put
out to add some of our own character to the room. I set my green backpack on the
“dining room” chair, my camping bowl and silverware on the table, and I hung my
Purple “Love Pink” shirt on the wall. We hung our hats, raincoats and fleece
sweatshirts around the room. We covered the tan bed sheet with a brilliant red
sheet of Amy’s and tied back the curtains to give the room a homey feel. I
busted out my tent air fresheners…blackberry…and hung them from our dresser,
making the room smell like freshly lit candles.
The bed was missing an important aspect…a stuffed animal! So
I took the brown body towel and created a bear with pineapple Mentos eyes. We
set the ipod speakers on top of the television and created “surround sound.”
As final touches, we dropped fabric fall leaves all around
the room that I had brought from home. We used Amy’s Nalgene as a vase and a
small bird figurine from the Philippines as the flowers to make a centerpiece
for our table. I found some old pumpkin seeds in my backpack and filled the
bowls on the set table.

We hooked up the music to play Kenny G which tied it
all together. Perfect atmosphere and personal touches for the beginning of an
incredible Thanksgiving!
When the other girls came over, we welcomed them in with
falling leaves at the door and candy corn provided by Tricia.
It was perfect!
It’s amazing how you get pleasure out of such small things
when you don’t have a lot to offer! I love how God used the small things to
make us feel at home with those we love! I love that, for a day, I was home
during fall and able to have people over to hang out and give thanks for all
that God has provided!
