So, training camp this week has been anything but boring! My story starts with an experience that we had on Tuesday. On our way to our next location, we got in a giant accident in which many people were paralyzed…some lost their arms …some lost their sight…I lost my legs! What we didn’t realize at first was that the situation was a lot worse than we had realized. With the loss of all of our fuel, our vehicle was in danger of blowing up and we had MAYBE 15 minutes to get all 100 of us up the hill to a safer location.

So with almost everyone somewhat disfigured, we were forced to work as a team and get everyone to a safe location before we all were at risk of blowing up in the wreckage! So people were dragged…others were carried…the blind had to be led to a safe location…I was put on the back of someone and carried up a hill, barely able to hang on with my slightly, less-than-muscular upper body.

As some people tried to make it up the hill, they fell off cliffs and became paralyzed and God miraculously healed several others (God is gooooood!! But, I’ll save that for another blog =D).

We all ended up in safety and I learned several things throughout the experience. First, although I lost my legs, God provided me with people who could help get me to where I needed to be even with their own pain. Second, that I had more strength than I realized, but had to depend on others, humble myself to ask for help and work with everyone else to reach the goal of our destination.

If you haven’t realized already, I didn’t really lose both of my legs, but this exercise opened up my mind to the importance of community in reaching a common goal.

This community that I’ve become a part of has literally started to become an extension of my family. I CAN’T wait to see how God uses each of us to minister to others and each other. Let the World Race begin!!
