One question that has been on my mind lately is- what is the beauty of Fusion?

What is the Fusion Squad?

Our squad is international. Racers from all over the world can join this squad. And because training camp is in month one overseas and not two months in the US before the race starts, the cost is kept down for those who don’t live in the US.

“A team of Racers from a variety of countries reaching the nations together for Christ.”

How did I end up on the Fusion squad?

Well, it wasn’t my first choice. I was on Q squad and loved it. I was excited about the route, and I knew one of my squad mates. So I wouldn’t be going into this with a bunch strangers. Then AIM (Adventures in Missions) sent out emails to racers asking if we would be interested in the Fusion route. I slammed the door on that pretty quick, for several reasons. I loved my squad now, I didn’t like the Fusion route (I learned that it doesn’t matter where you go, what matters is obeying God and realizing that every nation and every people needs Jesus) and I’m hard of hearing so I always struggled with understanding people with an accent. (Honestly though, it hasn’t been hard at all.)  But God had different plans for me. He would not let Fusion out of my mind. I remember one day while at work it was the only thing I could think about and finally I couldn’t stand it. So during my break I called my mobilizer and asked some questions and she put my name on the ‘interested’ list and would wait to hear from me about whether I wanted to switch over or not. I felt peace after making that call, and I told God that if He wanted me to switch then they would contact me about it. So I continued my plans with the Q squad and planned on heading out to training camp in a week. Lo and behold a few days later I got another email about it. I thought back to what I told God and I knew that He wanted me to switch to the Fusion squad. I called my mobilizer and officially switched my route and cancelled my plans and ride to training camp since training for the Fusion route would be in Thailand in January. And that is how I ended up on the Fusion squad and I don’t regret it for one second.  And I’m so excited to have the opportunity to serve in my home country with them!

Why is Fusion so awesome?

On my squad we have three from South Korea and one from England. We also have (so far) two exposure racers (where international racers can join our squad for a few months.)  One from Vietnam, Houng, joined for two months. And Banele, from Swaziland who is with us for three months. It is such a joy to serve with them! Our squad wouldn’t be complete without them. Despite the different cultures we have bonded so well. We learned about the different cultures from each other. Like seaweed is one of the grossest things I have ever eaten and it’s a very common food in Korea. And Raisins is very common and well-loved in America yet it’s one of the grossest things one of my Korean squad mates has ever eaten.

Even though there’s so much difference in our lives, we will always have one thing in common- Jesus Christ. We are on the race because we all desire to be used by God to show His love and build His kingdom. Because God has called us to join together as brothers and sisters in Christ to proclaim God’s love to every nations. This is all that is needed to form a friendship with any one, regardless of where we’re from. What better way to form lifelong friends from around the world? What better opportunity do we have to work alongside our brothers and sisters in different nations? We all came together in obedience to God. Christ is the foundation of our friendships. Is there a better foundation? It’s so beautiful to see that God’s Word is heard everywhere! And that people from every country has a desire to serve Christ! What I find even more beautiful is the different races joining together in the name of Christ! I love looking around and seeing people form 4+ countries working together as a team. This is what makes Fusion so awesome!

Some bonuses about Fusion-

Food- I had authentic (as authentic as we can get in Africa) Korean and British food made by my fellow squad mates and oh my word, it’s so good!

Lodging- I now have a place to stay when I visit England, Vietnam and Korea. Sisters in Christ make it a point to see each other, right?

Language- My fellow squad mates loves to teach us their language, and now I know how to write my name in Korean!

Psalm 57:9-11

I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
    I will sing praises to you among the nations.

 For your steadfast love is great to the heavens,
    your faithfulness to the clouds.

 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!

Let your glory be over all the earth!
