How small the word ONE seems to be when I make it about me.
It is a small number. It is a small amount. But I am learning it is so much more than that.

The Power of ONE

I was watching my niece and nephew this past weekend and as we spent time together, I felt this overwhelming sense of responsibility. They aren’t my children, but I love them. They aren’t my children, but I care for them. They aren’t my children, but I feel responsible to help raise them in Christ’s love.   I work together with their parents, and fellow friends and family, as one, to help raise these children, to love these children.

I have been studying Ezra and began to really think about chapter 3, verse 1. It states, “When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns, the people assembled as one man in Jerusalem.” They assembled as one man, as one unit. They came together not to stand out individually, but to unite together to form one strong unit.  This unity reminded me of Romans 12:4-6, “Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.”

There have been times where I have tried to be number one, and I have failed. It isn’t about trying to stand apart or being the best. It isn’t about separating myself from others, competing with others, but celebrating with others our gifts, our differences and uniting together as ONE so that God, the only ONE who deserves the praise, gets the praise. When we come together, work together, as one, we begin to truly serve God as He has called us to…together as one body.

The power of ONE… May we become ONE!
