Worship is powerful! The Lord has refreshed the power of it in my life since being on the race. It brings us into the throne room of our God. It places us at His feet. It allows us to know God more intimately. Worship can change the spiritual atmosphere around us and change our hearts. It makes us look up to our God and get our focus off of our own heartaches and the troubles of the world around us. Even as I write this, my heart is ascribing praise to our God. Why would God allow me to worship him? Why has he given me the keys to his courts? Why does he invite me, and all of us, into the throne room of heaven? He longs for the worship of his children. What a wonderful gift God has given us in worship! He gives us more than we deserve!
I am a songwriter. The Lord has continuously given me songs while on the race. In scripture, God commands us to “Sing to the Lord a new song” (Psalm 149:1). The Lord has allowed me to walk fully in my gift since being on the race, and I have felt my spirit come more alive as he teaches me about being an extravagant worshiper. He continues to pour out songs from heaven into my heart.
Since being in Cambodia, my heart has hurt for the broken people here. So many are hopeless, helpless, and hurting. The Lord gave me a song about four different people that I have met along the way here in Cambodia. The first verse is about a woman I met in the market, the second is about a man I met on the street who lost his family in Khmer Rouge (a horrible holocaust that occurred here from 1975-1979), the third is about a child at the AIDS orphanage we have been working with, and the last verse is about a student in the first grade class I have been teaching. The song is about how these people need Jesus and His love to heal their wounds.
She’s holding a baby
Can’t find his daddy
Her head is wrapped in a scarf
The child she holds is tiny and scared
She comes closer to me
Her hand out-stretched
Asking for anything I can give
To ease her hunger, ease her pain
Give her strength to live each day
Chorus:
I cry, I need you Jesus
To wipe away each tear that falls
And I, I need you Jesus
To be the lover of my soul
And I, I need you Jesus
To come and fill the empty spaces
Only You, Jesus
Only You, Jesus
Can make me whole and save this child
He calls to me, limping
Smoking his three packs a day
Been on his own since he was ten
He hobbles over asking me
For anything I can give
To get his life on track
Never knew his family
Mother, father, sister, brother
Tragically stolen away
Jumping, humming, leaping, flying
A child runs to grasp my hand,
Clings to my waist
Tugs at my heart
He’s lived here all his life
Sick and orphaned watching life pass him by
He wonders if anyone cares
Does anyone see him cry or wipe his tears?
Look at me! She commands
Yanking my hand and shoving
Her scribbled writing in my face
Thirty kids swirl around her
As she seeks the attention of her teacher
Will you love me? She asks with her eyes
Do you see me?
I’m hurt and lonely –
I don’t think anyone loves me
Chorus 2:
I cry, they need you Jesus
To wipe away each tear that falls
And they need you Jesus
To be the lover of their souls
And they need you Jesus
To come and fill the empty spaces
Only You, Jesus
Only You, Jesus
Can make them whole and save their lives
Can cleanse their hearts and heal their wounds
