Wow, time has passed quickly and we are already in month 2 of ministry on the World Race! On Tuesday (July 22) our squad raced to Antigua, Guatemala. It was a long journey, but well-worth it. Sometimes, I really can’t believe that I am participating in such an amazing journey. I am constantly in the middle of my own action-suspense movie. It’s as if I am constantly in the middle of any one of the Bourne, Ocean’s, or Batman movies. Traveling through foreign countries, meeting people of all cultures, watching God’s creation change from place to place.
We will be serving with YWAM (Youth With A Mission) this month. We are currently staying at the YWAM base here in Antigua. YWAM runs the High Grounds Coffee House through which they are able to evangelize to people in Antigua. Pray for my team as we work through the next few days deciding where God would have us work in the city. Some things we will be doing include helping out at the coffee shop (this may or may not include what my team calls “Jen Lev Unplugged” aka playing my guitar live at the coffee shop), visiting disabled children at the Pedro Hermano Hospital, working with a children’s street ministry, and helping YWAM with whatever their needs are. I will be helping with leading worship a lot on Thursdays during an English speaking worship service and Sundays during Bible Study. Friday evenings, we will be participating in Prayer Walking through the park.
Antigua is a beautiful, European-esque city, with lots of tourists. Many people here speak English. The streets are cobble-stone, and there are many cafes and shops. Antigua’s nickname is “City of Eternal Spring,” since the weather is very Spring like. The highs are typically around 75 and lows around 60. This is a welcome change from the humid, sweltering weather we had in Palenque and Jerusalen, Mexico. Antigua is surrounded by many active volcanoes. We were able to hike Volcano Pacaya during debrief this past Saturday. I will post a blog on that adventure soon.
My team will be in Antigua until September 2. We will return to Mexico City on September 3 where we will fly to Bangkok, Thailand on September 4. We will actually set foot on American soil with a layover in LA on our way to Thailand. We will stay in Thailand for a few days for debrief, and then we will travel to Vietnam for the rest of September. We have had to change the order of our countries. So the plan is to spend time in Vietnam during September, Cambodia in October, and Thailand in November. More to come! I am remembering all of you constantly, and I can’t wait to see ya’ll soon!
