Amazed. Transfixed in wonder at what God has done. This is how I feel at this moment in my life as I prepare for the journey of a lifetime! God has done wondrous and awesome things in my life!
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last!” Don’t Waste Your Life – John Piper
Here is a little about me and my journey to the World Race ☺
I was born and raised in a small town, North Augusta, SC. Our neighboring town is Augusta, GA, (home of the Master’s golf tournament) which I also call home since that is where I went to church and also where I spent half of my life growing up.
After high school, I earned a full scholarship to attend Newberry College (in Newberry, SC, imagine that!) as long as I promised to teach in SC public schools for four years after I graduated. I graduated with a BS in Mathematics and a minor in Education. I then moved to Columbia, SC where I have taught high school math for the past four years. While teaching, I have also been working on earning my Master’s degree in Education from Covenant College (in Lookout Mountain, GA). I will finish work for my Master’s degree in February and will graduate in May of this year. God has blessed me in these first 26 years of my life. He has allowed me to accomplish many things and has prepared me for this next journey!
My love for Jesus began at a very young age. I can honestly say that I do not remember a day without knowing Jesus as my Savior. I grew up in a Christian home with a loving Mommy and Daddy, an older sister (Karen, who beat me to heaven on 9/22/05) and two younger brothers (David, a Senior at Clemson graduating in May, and Jon, a Sophomore in high school) who are not only my family, but also my best friends.
My first experience involving missions occurred in high school. I traveled to Ukraine to help lead an Evangelism Explosion clinic at a Bible College in Odessa, Ukraine. I fell in love with the people while I was there. I traveled to Australia and New Zealand at the end of my Freshman year as part of a short-term study abroad program. I also was involved with Campus Outreach and went on Beach Project in Daytona Beach during the summer of my sophomore year. I worked at McDonald’s during the day and shared the gospel of Christ on the beach in the late afternoon/evening.
All of these things in my life have served to bring me to the World Race. Over the past year, I have felt God move in amazing ways in my heart. He has awakened a desire not to live an ordinary life, but an extraordinary one. I have felt the Lord closing doors and opening new ones. I am both scared and excited about the thrilling ministry that is to come. I am ready to embrace the adventure of a lifetime! I’m living each moment for Christ at a full out sprint… bring it on!
Here are the words of a song I wrote while I was on Beach Project. (Yes! I am a musician. I play the piano, sing and play a little guitar.)
Mission
(from Isaiah 40:3-5)
A voice of one calling:
In the desert prepare the way of the Lord
Make straight in the wilderness
A highway for our God
Every valley shall be raised up
Every mountain and hill made low
The rough ground shall become level
The rugged places a plane.
And the glory of the Lord will be revealed
And all of mankind will see it
And the glory of the Lord will be revealed
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken
And His glory it shines all around me
And His face is brighter than the sun
And I see that I always am nothing
In the presence of the Holy One
And I will go to the ends of the ends of the Earth to see Your beauty and Your worth,
To see Your truth and mighty power
To see Your glory
