Have you ever wondered what anchovies, cilantro, rice and
water soup tastes like? Well if you were at training camp you would have been
lucky enough to find out. Each day has had a regional theme and the meals go
along with it; first it was European, then Asian, and yesterday was African. It’s
extremely disrespectful to not eat everything that’s prepared for you so we’ve
been trying to force down some new cultural delicacies. (Note: the only way I
got that soup down was to race another girl on my team by gulping it out of the
bowl. It was awesome.) All in all camp has been intense… and yet amazing at the
same time. It feels like a week is packed into a day here but we’ve been doing
some incredible things like: deep spiritual formation, worshipping in new ways,
creative team-building, and exploring the great Georgian outdoors (all
interesting insects included). Yesterday we were given the task of packing two
people’s belongings in one backpack, hiking to a lake, canoeing everyone
across, building a shelter and fire, and staying there for the night. I was
ecstatic about this (since I’ve always secretly wanted to be on Survivor) and
had a great time (more stories to come). I absolutely love my teammates and
have been laughing harder with them in the past few days than I have in a long
time. I’ve also made some deep connections already, which has been a total
blessing. We find out our actual teams for the race tomorrow… I can’t wait.
Sorry this is so short but we were required to write a just quick
paragraph-long blog about our experiences so far. I’ll give you more updates
soon, but for now know that all is well and I’m loving life in the rustic outdoors. 🙂
