Greetings from Malanga, Kenya! Our ministry got changed right before we left
so we are now in a small village about 30 minutes from Kakamega. It is absolutely incredible here. We are living with a pastor and his family which
I love. The family is so welcoming and
hospitable in every aspect. We all have
a bed to sleep in (Beks and I are sleeping in a bed together…nothing brings
teammates together like a full sized mattress on a twin sized bed!), amazing
food to eat, Kenyan coffee and tea, electricity, water to shower with every
morning, prayer and worship as a family each night in both English and Swahili
and just the expectancy that we will be comfortable and welcome everywhere we
go in Malanga. Their hearts are so full
of love and joy that clearly comes from Christ which is shown through their
heartfelt prayers and their constant praises to God which I’m hoping will rub
off onto me.
Ministry this month is door to door evangelism, working with
the youth, and helping out at church.
The only one we have done so far is evangelism which I have never been a
fan of. Surprisingly in Kenyan it’s much
easier than anything I’ve done…although as I write that I realize I can’t say
I’ve done any door to door evangelism so maybe it’s actually just easy to
do. Anyways, we have been able to meet
some very cool individuals and actually lead a few people to Christ! Praise God!
I’m hoping working with the youth is even more enjoyable.
On a side note, something I’m hoping to learn this month is
how to live a life of worship. I feel
like Pastor Malanga (yes, his last name is the name of the village) and his
family really lives out a life focused on worship. I have loved beginning each day in a prayer
of thanksgiving, ending every day in song and prayer with their family, and
everything in between. It’s easy to see
the good things in life when the people around you are so positive and
uplifting.
and I am excited to learn from all of the experiences He has in store for me.
hugs to you all.
