It’s a big week in the Flavin house…this past weekend was of course, Father’s Day.  It was also the weekend of the annual Grandma’s Half Marathon.  This is also the week of my parent’s birthdays…Tuesday is my dad’s and Saturday is my mom’s.  First of all, I just want to say how proud I am of my parents.  This was my mom’s 5th half marathon and my dad’s 2nd.  The heat was almost unbearable (to give you some sort of idea there was 500 people who received medical attention and they almost canceled the full marathon half way through) but my parents beat their last year’s time…talk about hardcore!  They put a lot of time and energy into training and it was so fun to be able to cross the finish line hand in hand with both my mom and dad after 13.1 miles.  Congratulations Mom and Dad on an amazing race and for being such an inspiration to so many people.  It is a joy to share a love (or at least a tolerance) for running with you both!

Dad…You amaze me in so many ways.  You’re musical talent is incredible.  It’s been so cool to see you go from playing songs at church and summer camp to getting songs on Hallmark Hall of Fame movies.  Wow!  God has seriously blessed you with your music and I love to see how you continue to glorify Him with each song and each paycheck day after day.  I also can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that Mom has a husband like you.  You are an unbelievable training partner; always encouraging and uplifting, a faithful caretaker; looking after Mom through thick and thin, and simply a loving husband; doing the little things that matter each and every day.  Thank you also for being such a supportive father.  You have stood by me and encouraged me throughout my life whether it was sports, school, my relationship with God or now the World Race.  Thank you for your unconditional love, your continuous encouragement, and your guidance with my relationship with Christ.  I love you SO much!

Mom…I’ve told you before but you are amazing as well.  Besides the fact that you run 13.1 miles year after year, can draw perfect circles and have given me a love of fine coffee and dark chocolate, you are an incredible mom.  You put up with my daily phone calls, continue to help me with “mom” things such as teaching me how to cook and guiding me through important things like my taxes, and you truly care about it all.  You have shown your love and faithfulness to Dad in so many ways throughout the years..I am seriously blessed to grow up with an example of a true Christian wife.  Your faith in God has been such an example to me throughout the years.   You give him praise in all circumstances, even the really hard ones, and lean on him when things get rough.  Thank you for showing me how to have a relationship with God through your actions as well as your words.

and to both of you: I truly cannot express how much I love you and how much you mean to me.  Thank you for everything you’ve done in the past, everything you will do in the future and everything that you will do behind the scenes that I will never know about.  You are each incredible Children of God, made in His image and you are doing His work.  Thank you…I love you.

And of course,
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY & HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
