The coffee in Ethiopia is amazing and my team really appreciates how good it is by getting coffee every single day…

One day last week we decided to do our devotion at a nearby coffee shop.  It was my day to lead and I picked a section from Romans 5 to discuss.  The main point was that faith triumphs in trouble and that tribulation produces perseverance, which produces character, which brings hope.  And hope does not disappoint.  We can put all of our faith and hope in God because He won’t fail us and He won’t disappoint us.  He is always good and He will do what He promises.  The conversation led to Romans 4:20-21 which talks about Abraham not wavering in his faith and how he was fully convinced that God would do what He had promised.  God promised Abraham a son, and He delivered in due time.  Abraham had hope for his future.

About this time in the discussion a man at the table next to us asked us what passage we were discussing.  Turns out he was reading Romans too.  We invited him to join us and as we introduced ourselves he told us his name means hope.  What a divine encounter. Our entire conversation had been about hope and here sits a man who loves Jesus and is living to serve him and what does his name happen to be…hope!

God is so beautiful in His works and He gracefully reminded me of that in a little coffee shop in Ethiopia.

We hear Hope’s story and we were blessed enough to pray over him in that coffee shop and I think in that moment we were all reminded that God is always good, He never disappoints, and we can put our trust in Him.  Sometimes all we need is a little hope.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  – Romans 15:13
