By now we all know that Haiti was physically devastated on January 12, 2010. Walking the
streets and throughout Port au Prince, Carrefour and Leogane, I was
able to witness this firsthand! I was astonished at the “randomness” of
the quake. One building would be down, with the surrounding ones still
standing….and that was just the beginning!

I was in Haiti on the World Race. I left never wanting to go back. Then
I found myself there exactly a year later. Only God knew. Crossing the
border into Haiti brought back memories of last year. One year ago, we
prayed our way into Haiti. The gates were closed. They didn’t want to
let us in. Two weeks ago, we drove through without needing our
passports or even having to stop. The gates opened without hesitation.
Within the first few minutes of entering Haiti, I already began to
notice that although I may be in the same Country, the feel and vibe
was different. There was a peace in this Nation that wasn’t present a
year ago.

Throughout the devastation, there was a
unique peace. A peace that had
the newness of life. A peace that passes all understanding. It was
weird, yet amazing. Who would have thought that one month after this
natural disaster caused so much chaos that this feeling would be
present? Only the Lord!  How is this peace possible when one month ago that this Nation what
devastated by a 25 second long 7.0 earthquake? Over 200,000 people lost
their lives. More people lost their homes. The government was turned
upside down. Diseases crept in.

God placed the following song by Chris Tomlin on my heart while we were praying for Haiti. Are we willing to pray the bold prayers and believe that God is the God of all and ask for the things that might hurt us in order to heal us!?

You’re the God of this City

You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You are

You’re the Light in this darkness
You’re the Hope to the hopeless
You’re the Peace to the restless
You are

There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this City
Greater thing have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here

Haiti has found Hope, Joy, Peace, Freedom, Light, Faith and Life in the midst of these trials.

Haiti doesn’t want this Nation rebuilt, they want it to be built new. On a new foundation. Haiti
doesn’t want what was, but what is to come. Haiti is looking forward.
They are building a Nation on Christ. On prayer. On truth. Through
their hope, faith and love.

This is not only true for Haiti. This is true for us. Greater things
are to come. So are hard times. What are we going to do about it? Are
we going to fear the Lord and stand firm on his truth? Are we going to
be a body and work together for the common good? Not only during the
good times, but during the hard times? It might shake you, but it will also shape you!

My friend (and one of our translators), Geftay, from Haiti got the following word from the Lord.

Never let the obstacle handle your beliefs!
