This is Seth Barnes most recent blog. It
is a story and a challenge that touched all of our hearts at the Hylton
home this past week during Searchlight! This is what ministry and missions is all about. This is the heart of the matter, and the reason behind why we all do what God has called us to do! I hope and pray
that this will be a blessing and an encouragement and make you walk by faith and obedience – at all costs!

Tuesday night we were on the skype
conference call with Miguel.
His story was breaking our hearts. A bunch
of us were crowded in the room at the Hylton’s house. Brittany, Jeff
and Alycea Hylton’s ten year-old (w/ the cowboy hat in the picture),
was listening.

Miguel told the story of the Haitian mom who had to take her
daughter whose leg had just been amputated back with her to
Port-au-Prince to find her other two kids. And it hit Brittany in a way
that she just had to do something. But what?

Then she realized what she could do. Brittany has a dream of
owning a horse. For five years she has been putting money in a jar to
save up and buy a horse. She has been a great saver. Everything goes
into that dream.

And Brittany realized, “I can help the people of Haiti by trading
in my dream of a horse and giving the money to them.” So she emptied
her piggy bank and gave everything she owned to the people of Haiti.

Her example preaches a sermon to my soul this morning. What will I
give to the people of Haiti? What will you give? If we can learn from
Brittany, the sacrifice to bring hope may be steep. But for people like
the Haitian mom risking everything to find her lost children, it may be
the only hope she has.

I embraced Brittany last night and spoke a blessing over her. I told her that God blesses obedience. I believe that this little girl will not only continue to dream of having her own horse, but that she will be blessed with a horse, greater than her dreams. I will always remember the sacrifice and willing heart behind this moment! Are we willing to give all for the sake of others? Christ did! So did Brittany!

Not only did Brittany bring tears to our eyes, her family has left a lasting impression on us all. Thank you, Hylton’s for blessing me and being such a loving, generous, gracious and Godly family! What an example using God’s blessings to bless others!
