So, Haiti is a country that is preparing for
Carnival. Mardi Gras. We leave a few days before it starts…but already the
excitement is here and it’s building. People dress up and go around the city
trying to promote and pump it up. Decorations of various kinds – serpents and
dragons and LOTS of bright colours are appearing everywhere! There are witch
doctor’s and voodoo is a common practice throughout the Country….and we have
begun to see a lot more of it appear as Carnival approaches and people know we
are here!

God is here. Last week, we did street
evangelism and built relationships in a nearby community. This week, we are
currently running a VBS at the YWAM base for the orphanage kids and any other
children who have heard about it…we started off the week with about 15 kids
and now have about 60. God is good. Our theme has been “Superhero’s of the
Bible” and have been tying it in with 1 Timothy 4:12, going through speech,
life, love, faith and purity. It’s going really well and we are all having a
blast dressing up like Superhero’s and putting our creativity out there. SO,
for this week, I am known as Captain Capture That Moment…so needless
to say, I get to do what I love all day, and take pictures!! It’s pretty fun.
I’m loving leading songs and being crazy for the Lord!

It’s also been an interesting week, as many
of us have been taking God days – which has been a huge need and blessing.
yesterday, I was able to sit down and spend the day with God. I was on my face
before the Lord. I was in pain – agony. My back was out of alignment once again
and I felt weak and burdened. I didn’t want to go anywhere or do anything…but
God used it for His good and his purpose. He spoke to me in so many ways. It
was in the stillness and rest that I was given strength.

So often, I find that we all keep ourselves
so busy that we don’t take the necessary time we need for our Lord. I don’t
want to feel rushed when I go to God. I don’t want it to feel like a have to.
But boy, when you want to and need to and you ask God to show up – prepare
yourself. What an amazing day!

God gave me theses verses early in the morning:

In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it…Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice.

Blessed are all who wait for him.
Isaiah 30:15, 18

So much love and truth in them. You know, verses you
have “read” before but never really got…and then when God’s in the middle of
where you are and all you can see and feel is Him, he places them on your mind
and heart so gently that you can’t help but fall in love with Him all over
again!

That’s what this month has been
about…falling in love with God. Building a new found relationship in Him.
Building relationships – new and old. Breaking free of what was so that I can
grasp a hold of what is and is to come. I even find it amazing that so much of
what I’ve been learning, journaling and reading in scriptures was encompassed
in the book “The Shack.”
I started reading it back in Novmber, but had no
desire to read it…well, I just got it handed to me two
days ago and I’ve
already returned it to the owner! If you have read it, I hope you know what I
mean about life lessons…it was like
watching me in that book. If you haven’t read
it…I encourage you to read it – with an open mind and an open heart – and get
out of it what God has for you. It turned my world upside down. I saw God for
who he IS not who I made him out to be.

This is my week. This is Haiti. Not
typical, by any means…then again – what is. I’m on the race. No day is ever
the same. Every country will be different. Every moment is a new experience. I
am in love with all of it…the good and the bad. If I didn’t have my
struggles, I wouldn’t grow. It hurts and it’s hard – trying to love those
around you when you don’t always feel love in return can be frustrating. But,
knowing that God is there loving you no matter what is so reassuring. I am at
peace. I am free.

I am in love…and
it’s growing faster and deeper than I could have thought…he wants me. He’s
pursuing  me. He’s captivated my heart. Has he captured yours?
