You know those times where everything seems completely unrealistic and it feels like there is no way you could actually be where you are? Yup I’m there! It’s been over a week since I left the states to head on our sixty four hour adventure here and it still hasn’t set in. I have been waiting on the day I made it to Africa since I was six years old so now what?

Well we arrived in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on Friday morning to find we were living in a very comfortable two bedroom house. After a quick meeting with our contact Tristan, he took us on a tour to see the city! The beach is beautiful. The next day we got to hang out with some pretty awesome high school kids at their youth group where we got to worship and play! Sunday was filled with more worship at early morning service and night service at Light House Church.  It was exactly the kind of fill you up weekend we needed before starting ministry!

Monday the ministry began.  Our house sits just a few blocks over from what is called here the township. The township is basically a village of shacks built from whatever can be found. The people are living in a poverty that cannot be imagined back home. We are working at the Human dignity Center, which works to improve the lives of those in Poverty.  They have many different aspects of the center ranging from serving mothers living with HIV, to men who have lost hope and are trying to get better, and a wonderful school filled with some pretty amazing kids. For this week we will spend it in the school helping where ever we are needed! One of the teachers has a class of twenty first grade students nine of those being special needs. We have been specifically working one on one with some of those students to really give them the attention they need to learn.  After this week the kids will go on holiday but the school will run a Holiday club that we will help at next week!
