Bits and Pieces of My Life

I was reading back through my journal and thought ‘Why haven’t I wrote about this’ so here are snit bits of my journal from the past few months…

PS. I had intentions of posting this while we where in Malawi… Better late than never!

Dec 16th

Nothing is really ours. Think about it, we try to save food, clothes, money beautiful views, hugs and memories. Enjoy it in the moment because Jesus is in that moment with you. Can a moment become more rich than where you are that very second? Enjoy the view with Jesus.

When you capture a photo of the beautiful sky you are stealing from that moment. Your focus is on saving the beauty instead of living in it.

Listening Prayer

For my listening prayer I sat and enjoyed the clouds. Prayed, asked questions, read scripture. Frustrated because I’m listening for God and I hear or get ideas about something but it’s not a huge ‘OHH MY’ moment. Everyone else gets huge long written letters. Am I doing this right God? How can I practice to be better? Where can I put my focus? How can I become more of a teacher like you, Jesus?

I think its funny how in the bible wisdom is referred to as “she”. Love it! Seek wisdom.

Dec. 17th Thursday Another Off Day

I am sitting in a chair just sitting trying not to say the B word. You know which word, the word when you don’t have plans or much going on or when everyone is in their room and you don’t know what to talk about with your host… Yeah the B word. OKAY, the word is BORED!

Dec. 29th Last days

Today we went to a different area, area 24. It was a lot more urban than the areas we’ve been before. It was discouraging and a bit scary because the first half of the day we did outreach to Muslims and drunks. That's who needed Jesus. They were very different from the people we have met in the past, I could feel the spiritual darkness everywhere we went. Plus there wasn’t children following us.

Then after lunch we hiked to the top of a mountain . Oh my, beautiful!

*Corbin I saw old time mining, using hammers to break the rock for cement. I have rocks for you!

Gosh it was beautiful. At the top there were small pools of water where people were bathing and washing clothes.

Dec 30th Last day with the Rio Jumpers

We met a Lady named Mrs. Lucy , when we finished sharing our message she asked to pray for us in English! Then she asked to come to our weddings, She said, “I like weddings.”

January 1st 2016

Well it’s probably the first year I didn’t reminisce over the past year or write out all my future goals. Also the first time I went to bed at 10:30 on New Years, oh well. 🙂

Last night was great though, we had beans and rice for dinner then played pimps and hoes afterwards with the whole Rio Jumper gang. I’m going to miss them all. Then we shared stories with other teams and drank apple cider and I went to bed. 🙂

Oh the shower I took! SO hot! Every hot shower before has been lukewarm, I guess it helps to wake up at 5 am!

I am so happy not to be treasure anymore, I enjoyed it but it didn’t always bring out the best in me.

January 7th Waffle Wednesday

This morning Annie, Sharron and I went to the market to get food for lunch. I feel immersed in the culture and that I am actually living here not just visiting. The market was a maze people selling the same vegetables this way and that. There were woman with giant woven baskets full of pumpkin leaves, beans, rice, tomatoes, orchras (yuck, when you cook them they are nasty and slimy) and mango's. Then around the corner was the area they sold fish, piles and piles of crispy fish. The goats, the poor goats. Chopped up and sitting on a wood counter waiting to be bought and nothing goes to waste the best part is the head of the goat staring at you!

It was a fun morning adventure. we ended up buying pumpkin leaves, salt, bananas, orchra and that's all.  We made a Malawian style lunch. Blessings was laughing at us because we were just planning on ‘wingin it’ , we had an idea on what we were doing. Mama Grace showed us the proper way to cook. They were very excited that we cooked a Malawian lunch.

In the afternoon we went back to the church , on the weekdays Children of the Nation's runs a feeding program.

My life is very odd.

I live in a home with a Malawian family.

I sleep on a sleeping pad in a room with 3 other people.

I hangout with my friends all day, read, watch movies and drink way too much soda. My feet are always red.

There are always kids wanting to play.

We show people who Jesus is and serve like Jesus. What a beautiful life?
