Life in a refugee camp: ‘the cold and fear get in your bones’. This was the latest headline of an article about a refugee in the Calais refugee camp in France.
See that photo? I have the opportunity to go to this refugee camp in Calais in one week and serve refugees…but with your help. As the crisis becomes even more intense, there’s more of a need for volunteers. Not everyone has the ability to go and serve in the refugee camps, but being in Europe, I do. They are short on volunteers and desperately need help.
A few of my friends and I from G42 are planning on going to a refugee camp next weekend in Calais, France, commonly referred to as “the Jungle”. This camp holds 6,000 refugees, but it is extremely over capacity. To top it all off, the camp has become a swamp. Due to inclement weather, temporary structures and tents have been destroyed.
With your support, I can be that help, even if just for 4 days. I need to fundraise $350 by December 1st to cover airfare, transportation, and lodging to be able to serve at “the Jungle”. While we’re at the camp, we will help with anything from building shelters to cleaning up the grounds to playing with children to serving meals, but most importantly, loving them and sharing Jesus with those who have lost hope.
In reality, what we do there has nothing to do with why we’re going. We’re going to give hope, a smile, and love. These people have left everything with only a few personal belongings, and are now living in tarp tents, freezing as winter is approaching. Can you imagine that tomorrow, for the safety of your family, you have to leave everything you have and flee, only to get turned away everywhere you go? These are people, our brothers and sisters, who are simply in a terrible situation. Jesus tells us what we do for them, we do for Him. “Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” 1 Peter 5:2-4
I am willing. Will you help me serve the refugees in Calais? Please send me a message if you have any questions. If you feel led to support me financially, you can send money through PayPal to [email protected], or to my GoFundMe account. Below is an article posted a few days ago about the camp I’ll be serving at. Thank you for your consideration!
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.” Philippians 2:3-5
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13
“We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: “The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.” Romans 15:1-3
God bless,
Jenna
