Homeless, sex trafficking victims, abuse, passion, healing, these are just a few of the things we’ve witnessed in the past two weeks here in Malaysia. Unsung Heroes month has been like nothing I would have expected. This month, my team and I have the task of finding potential ministries that the World Race could partner with in the future. In order to do this, we have the opportunity to make relationships with many different people from different backgrounds, and see how God works in connecting us all.

When we arrived to Malaysia, we literally had no starting place. We weren’t given a region to concentrate on, we weren’t given a type of ministry to focus on, we had the freedom to go anywhere we wanted. We decided to start in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. Instead of spending a few days there, we ended up spending two weeks. God is so cool. Check this out:

The first person we contacted was a former World Racer, whose name I’ll leave out for safety reasons, but for the blog purposes, we’ll call her Sarah. (Malaysia is an “open” country, who still persecutes Christians). We got to have dinner with her and hear about her life, encourage her and her ministry, pray with her, and go to a prayer room afterwards that totally blew our minds. We worshipped with people from all over the world; China, India, Uganda, Botswana, Canada, just to name a few. At the prayer room, we met members of Watoto, the Ugandan Children’s Choir. We quickly became friends, and were even able to sit front row at one of their shows, and then hang out with them on my birthday! (such an incredible blessing!)

We also found a church called Kingdom City Church, a megachurch with several satellite campuses in Asia. Here, we met a couple that did street ministry, who invited us to join them. We broke up into groups of three and walked Petaling Street, a night marker in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Me, Britteny, and one of the leaders came upon a homeless man whose arms and hands were crippled due to an accident. He hadn’t been able to move his fingers that were clenched into fists for six years, and he had no feeling below his elbows. We prayed for this man, and he STARTED TO BE ABLE TO MOVE HIS FINGERS! GOD IS SO GOOD! It was an incredible experience, and we drew a crowd of 20 people who asked what was going on, and the leader was able to minister to them about Jesus in their native language. Talk about Acts coming to life in present day.

Sarah led us to two ministries that will hopefully become future World Race contacts! The first organization focuses on the homeless population in KL, first serving their physical needs, and then once they gain their trust and friendship, focus on the emotional and spiritual needs of each person. It’s an incredible organization, and I’m so excited that future racers may be able to help out! The second organization is a women’s ministry that serves sex trafficking victims and abused women. They help them gain skills by jewelry making, they give bible studies, and simply befriend them. Again, these women are incredible leaders and it was amazing to learn from their experiences.

We’re now in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia looking for contacts before we head to Penang to finish out the month. The believers we’ve met here are so inspiring; they risk everything daily to follow Jesus, and are some of the most passionate and outspoken people about their faith that I’ve ever met. While the Christians are amazing and doing so much for Malaysia, this country still needs all the prayer it can get. The way the government works, any Malaysian citizen is required to be muslim, and if you convert to Christianity, you lose all rights as a Malaysian citizen. In most cases, these people are abducted and kept in a detention center until they renounce their faith. There are masques and temples on every corner, and brothels line the streets of KL. This beautiful country and its people are so amazing, and I want nothing more than for them to know the Truth. Please be keeping Malaysia, its people, the Christians here, and my team and squad in your prayers.

That’s a little update of how this month has been so far, and I’ll be updating again soon with some of the things God has been doing in my heart lately! Thank you for all the love and support!

God bless,

Jenna
