At the beginning of last month (month 6), for the first I can remember, I became homesick.  So logically, I made a list of some things I miss about the states and my life there (other than family and friends of course).  I don’t think it helped, it just made me miss those things more…anyways, I thought I would share some of them with you all:

1.       My popcorn
2.       Always having an available and free (money wise) bathroom
3.       Mirrors
4.       Drinkable tap water
5.        Reese’s peanut butter cups
6.       Driving my car
7.       Movie theaters
8.       Buy one get one free breadsticks at Little Caesars
9.       Gordmans, Kohls, and Hot Topic
10.     Grocery stores with everything written in English
11.     Real and affordable syrup
12.     Having a fully functioning kitchen with all the utensils for cooking any meal
13.     Teaching and doing math
14.     Wifi in my house and basically everywhere I go
15.     Hot showers
16.     Getting unexpected text messages
17.     Watching sports on tv
18.     Having clothes to wear for any and every type of weather
19.     Having a washing machine AND dryer always available

I’m sure there are more, but those were the ones I came up with at the time.  I completely forgot about it until the other day when I was looking through notes on my ipod.  When I read it, I realized that since the day I wrote this, God has given me a lot of these things.

1.       I was able to eat popcorn as much as I wanted last month (it wasn’t my popcorn, but it was still pretty
           wonderful)
2.       Bathrooms where we are in South Africa don’t cost money
3.       There is a mirror where I’m staying (which is not always the case)
4.       In all three African countries I’ve lived in I have been able to drink the tap water at my house
7.       I got to go see the Avengers at a movie theater in Swaziland and it was wonderful!
10.  Swaziland and South Africa has everything in English
11.  We found decent syrup in Swaziland so I had plenty of french toast
13.  This month in South Africa I get to teach math!  Elementary age math but math none the less
14.  No wifi in my house or everywhere, but last month the house I worked in had wifi so I was able to check my
      email almost every day
15.  We more or less have hot showers this month
17.  I have yet to find any hockey on tv, but I have gotten to watch a bit of rugby which is almost as great
19.  Our pastor this month has a dryer and I got to use it once!

Sadly, still no reese’s peanut butter cups,  car, Little Caesars, or Gordmans, but I think I’ll be able to survive the next 4 months without.
