Officially in Haiti and I absolutely love it! Our travel day was quite interesting. It started off with me not going to bed, packing the busses at 3:45am and after 3 bus rides, a flat tire, and about 19 hours later we arrived in Grand-Guave, Haiti at the Mission of Hope International compound. It is so beautiful here and I am so excited about this month!
This month, my entire squad is together (all 40some of us) and we are all sleeping in our tents about 15 feet from the beach! I fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the ocean waves and I couldn’t be happier about it. I am also falling in love with my tent. It’s a bit crowded, but it’s my own space and I have the best sleeping pad ever. We also have a common area called the Shacoon where we eat meals and spend time together. All our meals are prepared by a Haitian woman and I get fresh fruit every morning, the best bread ever, and to top it off, I have actually liked every meal (which is a big deal if you know how picky I am). The only bad part is that breakfast is at 6:30am everyday…
I have been so extremely blessed thus far and thanks to the Shacoon and the beach we have shade and a nice breeze whenever we’re at home!
Unfortunately, a lot of my squadmates have been getting sick (most get better after a day or two, but it’s still not fun) so prayer for squad health would be great! Prayer for our ministry and Mission of Hope International, Hands and Feet (an orphanage here) and Be Like Brit would also be great! Be Like Brit is an orphanage that is currently being built by the parents of a 19 year old girl who died in the earthquake here two years ago. A few hours before she died she sent a text message to her mom saying she wanted to move to Haiti and start an orphanage someday. Since she didn’t get the chance, her parents are starting it for her. We are working with Mission of Hope, but all three are great organizations that we have been around.
On a different note, I’ve officially hit $13,000 so I only need $2,500 to be fully funded! Prayer for funds is always welcome!
I also won’t have much internet this month so please forgive my lack of blogs and lack of pictures!
